Going to the theater plays a very important role in the social and psychological development of children. Theater, as a cultural good, has an even greater beneficial impact on children facing health issues, living in poverty, or experiencing social exclusion. In such cases, theater can be an invigorating experience, a source of psychological support and a creative outlet in the healing process, in fostering social acceptance and integration for children who have been physically and psychologically traumatized.
For the 16th consecutive year, the Theater of Neos Kosmos is running a program titled “Solidarity theater for children” offering free performances for children in hospitals, institutions, special schools, refugee camps, solidarity initiatives, poor neighbourhoods, women’s prisons, rehab programs and so on. Over the past years, due to the fact that poverty rates have risen, the program is also aimed at children that cannot go to the theater because of financial difficulties.
“Solidarity theater for children” has been included in the act4Greece program in order to support its activities in the period 2017-2018. The funds raised will be used to cover part of the cost of constructing the stage sets.
