How can we help children learn what volunteerism and solidarity are really about? How can we best support them to become today the active citizens we dream our world will have tomorrow?
The innovative educational program “I Care & Act” which is implemented by the Desmos Non Profit Foundation and the Lambrakis Foundation gives the answer: with the aim to introduce and cultivate the notions of volunteerism, solidarity and active citizenship to students of all ages through a combination of theoretical approach and, most importantly, experiential learning. “I Care & Act” is a complete program which combines specially designed educational material based on international literature and best case practices, in-person and distance education and support to participating teachers, complete with a syllabus of practical guidelines and proposed activities with which to create meaningful discourse in the classroom. The program’s focus on experiential learning, encourages students and teachers to step out of the classroom, and explore issues, challenges and problems in their communities. “I Care & Act” takes it even further – for the active citizen of tomorrow, it is not enough to be informed about social issues, one must also take action and contribute to their solutions! Through “I Care & Act”, all participating students have the opportunity to connect with society at large through the program’s sponsored educational visits to social welfare providers, where students actively participate in volunteer activities and experience “giving”, creating powerful synergies with local, national and international NGOs and civic engagement/ community organizations.
Act4Greece is supporting “I Care & Act” from 20/12/2017 to 30/04/2018, and aspires to raise € 70,000 which will allow us to fund at least one educational visit for each of the 225 schools expected to participate in the program during the school year 2017 – 2018.
By helping us reach our goal, you are giving the opportunity to more than 15,000 students to lead hundreds of projects and volunteer experiences throughout Greece that will actually contribute in making our world a better place for the long-term.
